I would only contest your prediction of what cities will be like when america crumbles. Your assumption is the status quo extended (people will continue to remain confined to their current habitat and society will degrade upon the framework we see today. I argue that the crumbling of america will be an earthquake with consequences we cannot predict. While futile, I wouldn't mind having a round table discussing potential future scenarios.
