Forget society as a whole because you have zero power over that. Work on your family or start a new family, help educate your friends and the people in your community. Stop wasting time on television and learn about the world. Develop some skills and self-sufficiency so that you are ok no matter what. (fishing, hunting, building things) You don't need to be a genius, just interested. Then you can share your knowledge when it's important. I'm working on developing skills so that if need be I can just live in the mountains. Not even because I'm expecting anything bad. I just like to spend time away from people occasionally.
Maybe you can start a homeschooling group or join one as a teacher. Teach the kids something that you happen to be good at. I hear stories about that happening as a way of making homeschooling programs affordable.
Do everything that you can to avoid violence until they give you no choice but to defend yourself or your kids.. God is good and he protects his children. Protect yours and develop them into a stronger next generation so that they can help us overcome this evil.
