The Ottomans in Turkey already had a peaceful arrangement with Jews and gave them a settlement in the Jerusalem area. However following WWI Turkey and the middle east were carved up between various allied supporting factions and promises made to the Jews by the UK ad France were conveniently forgotten.
Following WWII the allies were guilt driven to fulfill their promises made during WWI to grant the Jews a homeland, and Palestine was the nation selected to bite the dust.
A fantastic book on the whole subject is called "6 Days of War" which details all of this and pretty much explains all of the problems between Israel and the rest of the middle east which continue to this day.
What "promises" to jews? This claim goes against the facts about the McMahon hussein agreement.
It was called the Balfour Declaration. Addressed to Lord Rothschild from UK foreign Sec. Authur Balfour in 1917. It stated that the Kingdom was in support of giving the Jews a part of Palestine as a home. No Palestinian officials were consulted in the decision.
I'm highly familiar with the balfour declaration. My question was aimed at the "earlier promises to the jews" bit because balfour reneged on the McMahon hussein agreement.
Wow, you’re retarded eh?
Promises may not have been the right word? If I recall, sometime around the 1870s-1890s dignitaries from Britain and France were making loose lipped commitments to Jewish leadership.
Thanks I have so much to research.
Get the audio book. When I was looking up the link for you, I saw it’s free when you set up an audible account ;)
Thanks I will get to it eventually.
