Density and buoyancy is most easiest to understand but there's other physics involved like resistance, viscosity etc you can factor. Oxygen molecules are not strong enough to support say water molecules so water falls through air at the appropriate variable fall rate. No invisible force pulling downward constantly. You can go test this yourself. You cannot go test the force of gravity right? Or can you? Can you?

no one has ever proved/tested gravity.
With that being said has earth been proven flat or to not be a globe?
