You are applying the controlled opposition context, and perhaps sometimes that is what that means. But he explains why he wants to portray them that way. Why would he want to portray them as controlled opposition? That would defeat the purpose and doesn’t make any sense. You can say he failed on some levels, but he was not on the same team.
