Having looked more closely into it I see I spoke too soon.
Yes, natural gas production stalled in the cold. It appears the production of natural gas has not been "winter-proofed" in Texas since they rarely have to deal with the extreme cold.
Having said that, the production of Natural gas can be winter-proofed. Same with coal, oil and nuclear.
Whereas wind and solar...
They can't even be "still day" or "overcast day"-proofed, let alone extreme weather-proofed.
Also, in their haste to prove the "anti-clean energy" people wrong, the New York Times and other local outlets inadvertantly brought up the most important thing about so called "clean" energy, that is rarely addressed by it's defenders... i.e. how little energy wind and solar produce and how completely incapable they are in providing for societie's energy demands.
Maybe they made the mistake of listening to the climate scientists, and figured that winters were going to be a thing of the past due to global warming...

Yes it can and Texas was told to do it multiple times in the last decades but they refused to do it.
And the first reaction of Texas' leaders was to lie and blame the renewables for the outages.
Fucking liars and grifters.

No they didn't. They were warned and chose to ignore the warnings.
