My brother works for a large Class 1 railroad. Over the last decade they have been completely overhauling how they run their operations. They previously focused on moving freight quickly and keeping schedule while keeping costs low, as a proper delivery company should be doing. They are now focused only on the 'cost per car', regardless of how long things are being delayed. They are closing down busy switch yards (essentially sorting hub facilities) for no reason other then cutting costs of the manpower. The smaller customers are being royally screwed by terrible, slow service. Some of the decisions Union Pacific is making right now seems like they are purposely trying to shoot themselves in the foot when it comes to actually delivering a service.

The Canadian Greyhound Bus company has gone bankrupt, FYI. If you don’t have a car or a regional shuttle bus, rail is your only option.

Until recently, CN stock was an iffy buy. He might know something we don’t....
