That is a door which is slightly ajar. You can see the round brass door knob to the left of the lamp. Higher resolution image
You can see the door, lamp and table in the right side of the picture.
that supposed knob is on the wrong side of the door, that makes the open slot the hinge side of the door. your knob looks more like a thermostat
Hinge is on the left.
Knob is on the right.
