Just never trust centralised services. You have decentralised ones for decades, why are you so attracted to some shitty mobile apps on shitty platforms with multiple anal probes?

As for SORM in Russia - that is true. There is a law for private providers. They must buy (!) and install devices for surveillance. Devices are sold by private companies affiliated with thief, murderer, oligarch and Putin's accomplice Usmanov. The prices for that devices are insane. If a small operator can't afford a device, there is a companies connected with FSB emplyees relatives who sell a "service of SORM". Nothing is installed or connected, but for a big periodic payment provider have a paper, that it is "renting" a SORM device. If a provider have no such paper or device it will be delicensed and shut down. In reality, SORM have a little with surveillance, there is absolutely no any sense to keep or observe encrypted data, everything they get in the best case is that some person exchanged unknown data with some service, nothing more. It is all about state racket. Authorities are so dumb, that they can't just buy or stole ownership of IT business, each time they do it, buisiness immidiately degraded and fall apart, but they want to grab money from IT business. So, they write a laws and force businesses to pay for nothing to their private companies.

However, even if russian authorities have no real ability to sniff traffic, they have much more power in oppressing a customer of russian IT service with different laws. And as usual, they don't need any proofs for applying the laws. Once you have a contract with russian company, you are fall under russian jurisdiction, and you could be easily fined, prosecuted, etc. for anything they want. Say, that Parler will be allowed to work only until the moment when some official bureaucrat find some "disrespect to authorities" or "extremism". Here Parler will began to pay fines. They even would not shut down the service Parler bought, nor break contract. Just began to milk it.

In any case, it is a very bad idea to "hide" from TPTB in Russia. Here they have even more power.

We all know that nothing gets done in Russian government without the approval or direction of its dictator. This is quite telling as Russian influence over American politics and the political sphere continues.
