Most people's programming is being challenged. Say what you want about Trump, but he was honest about what HE felt. That type of honesty resonates with people. That is why people are upset. During the Russia investigation it exposed a lot of uncomfortable truths that we only discuss at holidays and leave mad at our family. But, during the election year after a terrible outcome from the Russia investigation, we locked down the world which was waking up.
Pride (ego) gets in the way of the thought that what we believe may be in the middle of the word, beLIEve (super-ego). We beLIEve that orange man is bad. It causes direct conflict everyday with our core understanding (id) that you get what you earn.

Some people's entire identity is tied up in convincing people that they are 'good' (superego), but they are rational (id) which creates internal conflict that manifests in themselves (ego)...
So, that is why people oscillate between Republican and Democrat...because, no one is right all of the time.
However, there exists amongst the world people who beLIEve that they cannot be wrong because the ego has overtaken the id. Those people are extremely unstable. Generally driven to activism. TPTB understand this.
