I wonder why they broadcast their intentions? Boss move would be to surprise everyone on Jan 6 no?
One reason might be to inspire other Senators who might be on the fence.
It's likely the will of his many of his constituents, which is admirable in a way. He will ultimately vote to certify the results, though. His language in the statement makes it pretty clear he's not in favor of outright voting down the count.
