This is actually a continuation of the Cold War. The Cold War wasn't just about the USSR and the USA. It was communism/socialism vs. democracy/capitalism. The fall of the USSR was wasn't the end of the war. It was just a battle completed. The other communist world power was/is China. We've just entered into the next battle in the continuation of the Cold War. Think about it this way... During WWII, when Italy fell, the war wasn't over. When Germany fell, the war wasn't over. It wasn't until Japan finally surrendered that WWII was finally over.
