One of my old friends was a single mom in college. It was a one night stand and the guy just refused to be involved or pay child support or anything. So, she got on EBT for about 3 years, dating one guy for 2 of those years and then they got married. She went in to get off foodstamps AND THEY WOULDNT LET HER AND DID EVERYTHING TO CONVINCE HER TO STAY ON. After about two weeks or persistence, they finally cut her benefits by half. She left the food stamp card in the office and threatened to sue and call the local newspaper if they sent her anything in the mail…Somebody is probably still using that card lol.
Apparently, social workers’ offices get more funding and their raises and metrics revolve around getting people enslaved to this system.
PS: they are still married after 15 years, have many children, and her husband is a physics professor at a private college on the west coast.
