The end of the yellow brick road is the realization that all of reality has been this way. What you are seeing is not new, its always been a lie, orchestrated on a non-human power to manipulate humanity.

We're not really in a special period of time, we just are a bit more aware of the contradictions and lies because of the internet and the ability of critical thinking people to express their views and share information. That's it.

I would also disagree that they don't give a fuck. The entire point is deception, is to lie, they have a need to manipulate humanity. They have all the 'material' wealth and power they could ever want, so what drives them is not material.
