There could be simple explanation, really, To be competent, you have to get a lot of knowledge on the way of uncovering God's design of real world. So, knowledge itself carry a bit of God in it. When you full with something that carry a bit of God, there is little place for Satan left. Really, I never met someone really professional and competent who was a bad person. I don't know a single smart person who is fat. In the worst case, people with knowledge could be a bit weird, but not in evil sense. Seriously, there have to be some connection between knowledge and ability to think and resistibility (does such word exist in English? :) ) to the evil.
