That's what we had in early 90s after USSR fall. Enterprises paid salaries in whatever they produce or have in stock if emproyees do not want to wait for cash. This was ended by Yeltsin government very quickly, since there was no way to tax that salaries and profits paid in goods and also tax following barter deals among people. They thought it will quickly destroy industry in Russia, but discovered themselves at the edge of bankruptcy, with industry, suddenly enhancing assortment to produce valuable things people need and agree to barter. Yeltsin government quickly fill market with cash and switched to another method of destroying industry.

By itself barter could be pretty cool, especially with modern IT. But I don't see a way Milley will get any money soon to support Israel if Argentina will turn into barter economy country. :)
