It possibly has something to do with their upbringing. It's very hard to undo the way one was brought up and is easy to go back to that being a default belief. I was raised Christian and have many issues with the Bible and would not say I am a Christian but know the verses well and no matter how much I can say that I am agnostic, in the back of my head I will always find verses to attribute to the state of the world and so on. The verse about raising a child in the way he should go and he will return to it when he is old has much truth to it (see I can't help it 😂). What one is taught as a kid will almost always be one's default and base beliefs no matter what. (Side note: It's why liberals are indoctrinating kids so much). This teaching about Israel being special, i believe is why we see so many defend Israel even with Christians. Christians and Jews are taught Israel is God's chosen people starting at a very young age.
