Well just a few thoughts here.

1. Your talking about a huge mass, rubbing against air. There isnt much friction.

2. The atmosphere is not a solid object, its much like liquid, flowing and constantly moving around. Again very little friction.

3. I wouldnt be surprised if the magnetic field acts as a source of motion as well. With it constantly pulsing up and down in intensity as well as off sometimes.

If we live to see something like what is painted in the adam and eve story, which is hosted on the cia site. We might get to see the world stop.

Funny enough... few references to the sky reversing in old legends...

The main one im thinking of is revelations.

I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind.

The heavens receded like a scroll being rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place.

Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and everyone else, both slave and free, hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains.

They called to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb!

It's funny, I can believe that god is not what we think it is and that the bible is based on truth without them contradicting each other ^^.
