One of properties of decentralized system is that users are equal and each user could have as many "identities" as he want and none of that "identity" have to be somehow tied to real person.

  • You could have any number of wallets and addresses for crypto
  • You could have any number of accounts in tox
  • You could have any number of downloads in torrent
  • You could have any number of services in zeronet/i2p

And so on.

If that "decentralized identity" is really decentralized, you will be able to have as many identities as you wish and as different from you as you wish. Imagine, you have an unlimited passports/SSNs/driver licenses. You could even use them one-shot - identify yourself for peer, do some interaction, and drop that identity forever after interaction. Very nice and sometimes useful thing. You need to interact with some peer and be shure, that during interaction you still interact with same peer and nobody other replaced peer in the middle of interaction. You both create identities, do your business and drop that identities if you wish. Say, you want to post here as "pkvi" and want to be 100% shure that nobody, even server admins could hijack your identity and post shit as "pkvi" here. Most people who talk with you here want that to. And want their identities be protected from stealing too. Decentralized identity system is a decent solution for that. You also could have completely another identities for other forums. How that could be bad?

If you can't create limitless different identities in that "decentralized identity system" - it's just another centralized crap and nothing more.
