But also so selflessly disassociated that they'd throw away their life out of the blue, when they could have just stayed home and preserved the most important person to themselves: themselves.

It's a weirdly specific stance for such a broad range of media platforms to all simultaneously decide to take. Like when Obama was elected and people started capitalizing color words for races. Lockstep shifts that don't make a whole lot of sense.
