Too late. Nothing new. Swarm drones have already been deployed by the military, and they're fully autonomous.

Specifically as a countermeasure for aircraft. Possibly even to stop incoming missiles. Painting targets on each other. Jamming.

Not to mention drones have been autonomous for years now. About a decade ago remember interstellar. But that drone could refuel and flew about seeking targets. In real life then there was a drone fully unmanned that could do that with solar; flight, land, recharge, flight. Recently fully autonomous hunter seekers. Unmanned seek and destroy.

The press is suggesting they're able to navigate the terrain better. In a forest looks cool. Not much better than is on electric cars and other robots in use. Similar tech with underwater UAVs mapping the oceans.

In regards to the topic. Too late. They've been militarised for longer. Those aren't very practical apart from recon. Any payload wouldn't do much in that size. Not against armour.
