They tried this trick in Russia 20 years ago - to spread rumors about unnamed nationalists who massively converted to Islam and create public "nationalist" persons who pose themselves as muslims to somehow control anticipation to the aggressive caucasian tribes and immigrants from middle asia. That does not work at all, because it was not Islam that cause anticipation (There are a lot of muslims in Russia like Tatars or Bashkirs, Russians never had any problems with since medieval ages), but the behaviour and habits of that uninvited guests and preferences granted to them by goverment combined with the unwillingness of guests to comply with social rules of native population.
