Following WW2 was a vast improvement in life expectancy and prosperity, especially in the US, but also as Europe was rebuilt.
At least WW2 had a realistic endgame and you could just bail from Germany or the surrounding 10 states.
Covid doesn't and will most likely not end until people literally go out and kill each other, drenched in blood and carnage.
