r/Conspiracy was always a favorite of mine. It's funny, I first joined reddit because of Fantasy Football. Then once I started using the site regularly, I got addicted. I started going to more and more subs. There was just one major fn problem. While I am rather socially liberal, I wasn't a full on ideological brain dead robot. So much as mention a positive word about republicans or conservatives in r/politics and I was instantly banned. This was all way before Trump ever road down any escalator. This was back when Obama was still president.

But being banned from r/politics didn't really both me much. The sub was so shitty anyway, I didn't care. However, being obsessed with world news and geopolitics caused an even bigger issue... I didn't know that posting an article about China enslaving millions of Muslims to r/worldnews would get me banned. No explanation. Banned from the sub from commenting and posting. I was pissed.

Within two days, I was banned from about another 20 to 30 subs (that I know of). Banned when I hadn't even posted to the subs. Banned from subs such as r/news, r/pics r/nottheonion, r/antiwork, r/europe, r/confesion, r/dataisbeautiful, r/economics, r/earthporn, r/futurology, r/happy, r/technology... you get the idea.

I had been a reddit user for over a decade. This was the final straw for me. I knew I had to walk away from this site once and for all. I resisted at first. But I would see someone saying something stupid and go to correct them only to find out I was banned from that sub. I was not a power user. I didn't post all too often. I would occasionally post world news articles to the r/worldnews sub. I never expected to be shown the door because I posted an article about China being assholes.

So I said fuck it. I deleted all of the reddit apps off my phone. I stopped using reddit all together. It's been about two years. Fuck that website. I really don't even miss it. The website has become an echo chamber. Politics has infested so many subs that I used to enjoy visiting. All they do is attack trump or attack conservatives in basically every other sub. Politics has infested subs like r/pics or r/happy or r/jokes. We get it, you guys hate trump. Can't you keep that to the r/politics sub? Speaking of which, the r/politics sub is probably the purest form of cancer on that website. It is the most perfect real world example of controlled speech and thinking.

Anyway. I was pleasantly surprised when a friend told me about this site today. r/conspiracy was always one of my favorite subs. It was also one of the few subs I wasn't banned from. But I deleted the reddit apps off my phone and never looked back. So here's to this place. I am definitely excited about having this new place to visit every day.

Ok ok. Rant over. I'll end with a thought that's been bothering me as of late since I think it applies to many of us who read about conspiracies. Ignorance is bliss. Truly. Stop and think about what that actually means. Imagine how nice it must be to not know all the things we know. Things that keep us up at night. It is 2am here right now after all. I sometimes wish for those days when I didn't know any better. When I didn't know about all the corruption and stealing and killing that goes on in this world. Unfortunately, once you see the truth, you can never un-see it. Once you decide to peak under that iron curtain, there's no going back. Be warned.
