Can any old(er) timers in here shed some light on if large chain stores did this stuff in the 80s and 90s? I remember K Mart and Sears starting to wind down in the early 2000s but those were due to shitty, non-adaptable business models and (((investors))) robbing them blind. I can't recall any major chain stores shutting down established locations because of theft or general nigging. You know shit is getting bad when stores that get their inventory for free and most of their labor as community service or at best minimum wage can't stay open. I wonder if the quality of free shit they get is declining too.
