At a higher level, I just like to think this is nature's way of balancing things out. The intelligence of some of us over the millennia has brought technology and comforts allowing those folks to breed that nature would normally have culled.
Today, ((they)) use our instincts and base behaviors against us. Many will not make it, yes, but those who do, will have learnt to overcome themselves and see through all ((their)) tricks. It's still eugenics on a large enough scale and timeline, and I don't particularly mind it.
I can imagine there being better ways to go about things, causing less suffering, but that would require almost everyone to be fairly rational about reality which is not the case.
