Rail bridges don’t just collapse. Most railways have a division called Bridges and Structures and their only job is to assess and maintain things like bridges and culverts. I have never heard of a train bridge failing in North America and some places still have wood bridges, or bridges supported by only wooden piles that are crudely pushed into a creek bed.
