Either there was a problem with me and my browser, or some developer had a hissy fit that there was suddenly traffic to this page and shut off access.
Now it's back.
I saved screenshots, however, of it not working.
The consensus response seems to be to turn off search highlights.
I haven't tested this -- I'm using Windows 10 -- but in the interest of completeness, here it is one solution:
right click on the task bar, go to "Search" (top option). This will pull up a drop-down menu. De-select "show search highlights". It immediately removes it.
