There is uncertainty about the effects of face masks(....)There is a need for large, well‐designed RCTs addressing the effectiveness of many of these interventions in multiple settings and populations, as well as the impact of adherence on effectiveness, especially in those most at risk of ARIs.
It is about effects, not efficiency. Among effects of face masks are oxygen deprivation, bacterial growth and so on. Yes, there are a lot of harms of face masks to study.
Also, why you omitted
The pooled results of RCTs did not show a clear reduction in respiratory viral infection with the use of medical/surgical masks. There were no clear differences between the use of medical/surgical masks compared with N95/P2 respirators in healthcare workers when used in routine care to reduce respiratory viral infection.
sentences form your quote? Numbers in article clearly show zero efficiency of masks.
So, yes, debate is over about efficiency in preventing viral infections transmission, but all that harmful effects of face masks had to be studied.
There is completely another catch in that study. There was no any verifiable scientific experiments conducted by authors, it is just a compilation of some statistics.
It is obvious that those face masks governments mandated during coronahoax absolutely can't work for preventing respiratory viral infections transmission, but no experiments conducted yet to practically prove or disprove that exact statement for obvious reasons. Nobody will give out a grant for such study, because those who giving out grants are exactly those who forced that stupid mask mandates. So, at best we are limited only with such metastudies yet.
> Among effects of face masks are oxygen deprivation
the reasoning propaganda for the masks were always bullshit, but assertions of O2 deprivation aren't accurate at all. for decades there's been people in the trades having to wear masks or respirators. if masks were restricting 02, OSHA would've gotten involved.

You could literally check it by yourself for few bucks.
You need a cheap electrochemical oxygen sensor, something like this https://aliexpress.com/item/1005004689458078.html and any multimeter. Sensor is a kind of battery and voltage is linearly proportional to oxygen concentration at the side of battery exposed to the environment. Measuring voltage in steady air you get calibration point for 20.9% O2 as it should be in Earth atmosphere. Remember voltage it gives. Other calibration point is 0% when sensor will give 0V output. Then, measured O2 concentration equal measured_voltage * 20.9% / open_air_voltage.
Sensor is pretty sensitive, stable, accurate and works from 0% - 100% oxygen concentration.
Then, you just measure oxygen consentration under the mask. For regular surgical blue mask it will be 18% and below, depending on breathing rate.
I had few of that sensors to measure quality of welding oxygen, engine exhaust and other things, so I successfully used that sensors to troll some maks mandate defenders among some acquaintances (not friends, have no such friends who defended that shit) since the beginnign of coronahoax. In most cases finding the truth by themselves worked out even for dumbest of them. There was one or two completely dumb, with hysterical "yes, it's lower than safe concentration, but you are not a doctor and killing grandmas!!!111" refusal, but fuck them.
Surgical mask prevents normal output air flow and oxygen depleted air stays under the mask (and around), instead of being streamed down from nostrils, in huge amounts, so on breath in you have a significant lack of oxygen in incoming air.
You could literally measure oxygen deprivation for fucking $35 and see by your own eyes what is really happening. You don't need to be a fucking doctor or rocket scientist to do it.
Why are you people so incurious? What makes you unable to even think about checking things by yourself and force you to look for some authority that you for some reason think will be believeable?

IDK about OSHA or whatever, but in Russia, guidelines for surgeons who have to use surgical masks says that they should be changed every 40 minutes with some time between changes. Cloth masks for industry is not regulated at all, because they are not officially allowed for industrial use. Only for home/hobby use. For industrial use respirators and gas-masks licensed with valve system to separate air ins and outs so they does not mix breathed out and breathed in air. Official limit for oxygen concentration in breathing air when human could be allowed to be exposed to without additional breathing apparatus is 18%. Everything below is accounted as harmful.
Something tells me that you will find similar guidlines for US surgeons and rulings for industry. And of course you will not find anything about wearing that chineese made cloth masks for any prolonged period of time as was forced by insane WHO terrorist organisation and their accomplices rulings. You know, human beings and laws of physics are very similar on both sides of planet, so that 18% safe limit should be the same, as a way cloth masks interfere with air flows.
> You could literally check it by yourself for few bucks.
...or i could have worked in a few trades that oft use masks and respirators and never heard anyone complain about lightheadedness, nor experienced it myself when using such equipment. that, and having gone through several levels of OSHA training and not once hearing any instructor or textbook call for supervisors to be alert for signs of oxygen deprivation in relation to masks or respirators.
nor were any such warnings or cautions issued when going through military NBC training, which require the use of even more restrictive masks and filtering.
the 40 minute guideline you're referring to relates to pathogen growth on the mask; not O2 interference.
