Hot air balloons were invented in the 18th century and parachutes were introduced 100 years before the airplane. Chinese rode giant kites for battlefield perspectives, but on an X axis. (Up and down, like an elevator)
Interesting. I like the idea of the belfry being used for airships.
Would it have been helium or hydrogen? If hydrogen, do you think they could have contributed to the great fires? Perhaps why the old cities which had these types of buildings all suffered major fires?
Definitely quickly, but it could have the the proverbial spark to light the flames. You have a bunch of minibombs all docked around the city, and then boom you fly (think 9/11 but with blimps) at night and start a fire which then quickly spreads? Just a speculation

i believe it, I heard elsewhere that they had blimps like 'cities in the sky'
