I don't agree with everything you wrote, but along these lines, I think property taxes are a mechanism that forces everyone to stay engaged in the financial system.
Where I live, even if you could get off the grid and be self-sustaining in terms of utilities, food, and clothing, you would still have to come up with money every year to pay property taxes. Again, another control mechanism that forces people to stay in the system.
I wanted to explain that to my grandpa the other day but was like meh it won't change anything. Might just be my area but once you hit 65 and get into some program my uncle mentioned that shit is very affordable. I was expecting much bigger numbers during his rant lol. Dude had a 17 dollar bill for school taxes. Think property tax was still like 2k tho.
