Same thing in the 80s. They also gave us small tubes of toothpaste, which we then proceeded to slowly eat throughout the day. At one school (I changed schools at least yearly), the lady said we didn't need to spit the pink fluoride, so we all swallowed it. I vividly remember that once. It was gross. I only think it happened the one time. I'd probably remember if the swallowing happened again. But we were given fluoride cups a couple times a year.
Apparently the poorer (I was in very rural, very poor area) schools were give extra gov money for "dental education" and were given free dental crap along with some extra cash.
I have moderate dental fluorosis, so I can only imagine what my bones and brain must look like. I have been drinking distilled or RO water for 20 years now, hoping at least some of the damage can be undone.
