You may have been emitting a signal that he could detect either for tracking, harvesting info, scamming, etc - hopefully you shield your cell phone/ laptop/credit&debit cards to avoid being targeted. Have you checked to see if you have been tagged? like with rfids, trackers or an Apple airtag...
