Restricted because hell who and what responsibility are you. If you die from extremes who is responsible. They have had people trying to hike across it end to end, for record breaking. But they didn't survive. Some, and more do. Quite a few. There is also that renowned mountain to climb for the World Summit challenge. They have groups doing that one. As well as the end to end hike. West- East. Not center, permissions. So tour operators operate on licenses and permits. Hike, and climb, like stated you need to be pro, real pro, or you aren't doing it. Maybe you can buy your way in. But not completely, it ain't Everest. No, sherpas. Group of pros. There is also all the Wildlife research penguins, whales, etc, these are the main attraction. Otherwise I mean seriously, it's all the same.
