Is there a difference in increase in excess mortality by gender? If so, seems plausible.

other mechanisms I've seen discussed:

affects genes related to platelets
over specification of immune response causing localized and systemic inflammation of epithelial tissue
adjuvants (eg. Graphene) causing direct damage or indirect damage (eg. Oxidative stress)
