We can debate data all day about elections and I am happy to do it. But in 2016 Trump formed the largest, most energetic, most fun constituency I had ever seen conservatives form. The Tea Party was the precursor to Maga, where right wingers were finally catching on to the game pro war corporate Republicans had been playing for generations. They fell apart in 2012 due to establishment sabotage and propaganda (and the assassination of Andrew Breitbart). Trump was able to harness this movement and make a enhanced steroid version. MSM even helped him unintentionally by giving him billions of dollars in negative coverage to which the normies had quit believing.
What did Hillary have? Her only excitement was the usual feminist crowd who will vote blue every election anyway. Then the normie democrats were behind her but far less so than their messiah Obama (who had also been hemorrhaging support). No one actually likes hillary except for angry feminists.
To think that Trump legitimately lost in 2016 with the most enthusiasm the right wing had seen since Regan, while the Dems lost support after 8 years of broken promises by Obama, is absurd. I do recall Hillary trying to get recounts going in certain battle states which was quickly halted because the voter fraud was all pointing her direction. I think they just vastly underestimated the Donald.

Many former Bernie supporters and Obama voters voted from Trump. People on both sides can deny this all they want, that won't make it not true.
