On a related not, Apollo 13 may not have made it into space.

April 1970: NASA launches Apollo 13, but apparently it aborts only minutes later – an emergency splashdown in the eastern Atlantic. The Soviets then recover an Apollo module that had “fallen from space". But all is not lost. The US sends an icebreaker to a Russian port to bring home the lost Apollo module.
