Spellcraft is a real thing. Words have meaning and power even if you don't understand what they mean. The changing of definitions has been going on a very long time. Grab and old dictionary from early 1900s for example and you can see many changes to many words in the name of "science" or "progress" when in many cases it is the dumbing down of language and expression itself.
