A pocket knife, cheap hand saw, and fallen tree branches.
Take your time and make a walking stick, 5-6 feet tall and sturdy. Get some cheap sandpaper or learn how to smooth the wood without it. Then, think about how you made it, and do it again, but better and use some linseed oil when you are done to help seal it.
BTW, there is a market for walking sticks, surprising what people will pay for a nice looking piece of wood.
