Is it possible that we're a mining colony? All of humanity is here to mine. I think it's possible but I'm not sure.

Legend has it, we were created by an advanced species using part of their DNA and primate DNA native to this planet. They used us to mine gold as they needed it to protect the atmosphere of their dying homeworld.

Makes for a great story. Likely 100% bullshit. Sounds cool.
