Getting so tired of online press and social media platforms. Where there is no law on blatant misinformation from the press. But it thinks to police the public for the same, often innocently.
I have seen so much nonsense being pressed on Ukraine. Stories that aren't factual. Not verified. Are lies. Yet all of 5 minutes ago, it was an inquisition against people questioning COVID. Fact checkers and lawsuits deployed.
Again I don't care. Not picking a side until I am in war. Then I pick my nation. But the bias being spewed is unfactual and the majority is from social media and online press. Sources people wouldn't find in store bought papers, because it would be sued. Falling under national laws. But somehow nobody can sue social media. But it can sue the public, and perm ban it for simply challenging the narratives spewed which are often outright lies.
No I don't want censorship either. I want fairness. I don't want it banned. I want free speech. So people can discuss it. Currently there's only outright hypocrisy and disgusting manipulation. It's utterly skewed.
I cannot even form an opinion on this. Some random twitter. Yet yesterday every online paper ran with it was destroyed. Posting that now. It is obviously a ban to cover the press lying. Or do they get the same treatment? Ban every shit spreading online paper. Ban the platform for not fact checking it. Or simply let everybody else challenge it and the rest of their abuse?

Look at it echo a lie. Either it allows every opinion so people can object and form facts. Or take it down completely. Sadly the parasites running it only want to manipulate opinions to hide their lies.
Imo, freedom of the Press doesn't mean freedom from responsibility; the laws protecting politicians and journalists from libel and slander are far too forgiving. It was a blatant hate crime hoax, the victims should be able to sue whoever broke the story. With that said, the whole "bury the retraction on page 11 of the style section" thing needs to change too. I hate to advocate against the free press, but they've proven time and time again that they are amoral hacks, who wouldn't know what ethics is if it was wearing a name tag. It's almost like if they're op-ed bullshit, they aren't journalists and aren't protected and should fall under separate rules. Something needs to be done soon, because we're reaching a point of no return. If there is zero credibility given to any journalism, then the government can basically do whatever it wants: not that that would really be remarkably different than the current situation, but at least now we can get drunk and howl at the moon about it.
Smith Mundt Modernization Act of 2012 allows media to legally make up stories using crisis actors and lie to us. Sandy Hook happened right after this, then boston bombing, and so on.
