I keep hearing this. Russia already has access to the Black Sea. Hundreds of miles of coastline.
I'd have to look it up. There was something about that region being important to connect to efforts in Syria as it relates to pipelines.
Sochi (Winter Olympics) is on the Black Sea. Novorossiysk is a large Black Sea port. They took control of this coast in the 1820s during the Ottoman-Russian wars.
Useful context: Crimea is already annexed. Russia is using it to transport pipelines. Not sure whether this is to simply shorten routes around the sea, whether it's a region of production itself, or something else.
