tl;dr: Anon thinks they are smarter than a doctor because not having 8+ years of educational training is supposed to be an advantage.
A better way to think of it is Pharmacy Corporations invest millions appeal to physicians because those are the only people allowed to prescribe their drugs.
For it to be OTC it has to clear four things. Low potential for misuse, used for self-diagnosed conditions, can be safely used without physician instruction, and they can be adequately labeled.
Most of these are pretty subjective. And that's a problem because that means more people can make claims that'll hold up your approval. And these days, nothing clears for "the good of the people". You have to pay every single party off what they think they are worth.
It's cheaper to pay off a doctor that sees thousands of patients each year. And it's even cheaper to use public opinion to push idiots like the OP into dogma. Like you may think doctors are doing this, many are not. Mine was spoke to by the ACP and basically told to conform or they would have state license issues. Everyone knows what happen to Joe Rogan's doctor who is currently in a dozen lawsuits by physician memberships. And what happened to all those doctors that spoke of hydroxychloroquine? Lawsuits, social media bans, and forgotten. If you're dumb enough to blame physicans, congratulations for falling for the political propaganda.

What I've always found odd about this argument is: why not advocate to make drugs OTC? would be easier than bribing all the doctors
