Aha, it depends on your perspective I guess. But I think that if they had gone this fast from the beginning, many people would have been repulsed and turned away. So, they wanted to boil the frog slowly and start with something innocuous like "social distancing" and "2 weeks to flatten the curve". Now, of course, they cannot afford it anymore, because people are dying, and they must accelerate. I personally see it as a good sign provided that our side doesn't screw up this opportunity.
