You need to use operators to make duck duck go work properly for a lot of stuff, and even then the actual issues are a prevalence to backlinks on major publishers and the need to actually submit a lot of content if it is self hosted for crawling.
Information is getting scrubbed and there is little we can do about it. We need to redefine search and the entire experience of the internet. We have been programmed into the same gateways of information.
We rarely look at top sites, people don't curate content as much and all forums are centralized ....
A technique they have been using for about a decade to an extreme success is where they make popular terms which overwrite the original search terms. (Movies, and songs are a big way they do this, but even artists are being created with the names of events such that the original event gets hidden by the artist themselves)
Much is turned into commercial products so when you search for stuff, the algorithms will return completely manufactured content designed to overwrite that concept...
