The closing ceremony involved the Olympic "cauldron".
A child <cough ehem> from different parts of the world carried each petal of the cauldron and assembled at the opening.
The petals were then lit.
At the closing, a Phoenix arose, and the flames were extinguished <cough ehem>.
The artist responsible for the design, also designed the "Vessel" sculpture in NYC.
This sculpture resembles a crucible (to me anyway).
Coincidentally, several young people have committed suicide off this sculpture.
