You realize this are portraits right? Most of the paintings of Washington were painted by looking at other portraits of the man. Not many were painted with him posing in front of them.
My ex girlfriend's dad worked in Congress and in one of his offices there was a portrait or washington that was painted with Washington actually posing for it and it looks way different from what we know as Washington today which is copies painted from other copies by different artists over time. So, yes they are inaccurate. They are fucking drawings by people with different styles skillsets and interpretations most of whom had never seen him in real life.
They used to do this.
