I have a theory: 1/233=.00429. So if the underlying IFR at the time happened to be .429% or something similar and they registered a death they would want case counts to increase by corresponding number in order to keep IFR constant. We recognize deaths as generally accurate but cases as profoundly inaccurate subject to variability both in diagnosis and severity.
You have Iowa, Hawaii and San Diego news outlets within the first few, 2, 3 and 3 and a half months ago. Between digital, television and print media, we have thousands of outlets reporting coronavirus numbers for hundreds of cities for every month, week and day. Over a long enough time you're obviously going to have the same numbers repeat, especially covering that many cities, that often. And that's just the US. They're going to appear way more frequently if we're taking into account the entire spherical earth.
This does seem most likely to me. We know local news parrots the AP and can't be trusted, but this would take it to the next level. Nice plug for sphere earth. ;)
How many different news agencies ?
I bet if you traced it back they all come from the same press release
2x3 = 6 3x2 = 6///// 666
