How does this compare to average background deaths over that time interval?

Lies, Damn Lies and Statistics Dept: The "expected death rate every month" is over 8,000? In a country of less than 5 million. That's some third-world death rate, right there.

Meanwhile, this says that monthly death rate is actually less than 3,000: https://worldpopulationreview.com/countries/ireland-population

That's some real Russian Troll Factory baloney right there. It fails to mention that the report says the deaths are from all causes, and are lower than the 8,718 that could have been expected.

"Using the 5-year average monthly death rate (by age band and gender) from 2015 to 2019 for comparison, 8,718 deaths would have been expected among the vaccinated population within 28 days of receiving their COVID-19 vaccination.

This means the observed number of deaths is lower than expected compared with mortality rates for the same time period in previous years."

But for a true comparison you'd need to compare the death rate for the last 5 months for people who hadn't had a vaccine in the last 28 days.

Or you could look at the stats that say it's the unvaccinated that are dying now. For example: "Texas has seen nearly 9,000 COVID-19 deaths since February. All but 43 were unvaccinated people."

Additionally, it said 95% of the 43 vaccinated people who died were 60 or older, and that a majority of them were white and a majority were men.

Yup that's the part the paper chose to mention. Real trustworthy source there.

DSHS doesn’t track the number of COVID-19 hospitalizations among vaccinated people statewide because hospitals are not required to report that information to the state.

So that's 95% of an unknown number.

Real trustworthy source there.

I'm missing your point. You'll have to spell it out for me.

So that's 95% of an unknown number

You're confusing (deliberately?) 'hospitalizations' with 'deaths'. 8,787 is not an unknown number.

All the quoted article is saying is that the death rate is lower compared to the previous five years,

They're giving it to old people because their chances of staying alive and out of the hospital are better. They've given almost 4 billion shots. They have the statistics.

You're looking so closely at the elephant you can't see that it's about to sit on you. Ignore that at your peril, and everyone around you who is vulnerable.

"Delta variant is one of the most infectious respiratory diseases known

The delta Covid variant is one of the most infectious respiratory diseases seen by experts.

Currently, the more infectious strain makes up more than 83% of sequenced cases in the U.S.

97% of people admitted to hospitals with Covid symptoms are unvaccinated."

Notice the hardest hit areas are those countries with populist movements.

Do you mean the areas where vaccine uptake is low?

The delta variant started spreading very quickly after the vaccines

Those were the variants of concern. The first variants showed up earlier. They were feeble and didn't get any press. Viruses mutate constantly. That's why the flu vaccine is different every year.
