Biblically speaking, Semite refers to the ancestors of Shem, one of the three sons of Noah along with Ham and Japheth. Abraham and his decedents were from the lineage of Shem, and are such called Semites.

One of the prominent people groups in the Bible who did practice cannibalism and human sacrifice were the Canaanites, who were decedents of Ham.
